Anyone who relies on Microsoft’s Mail and Calendar apps to manage their daily activities on Windows 11 must soon change their plans. The company is retiring the classic Universal Windows Platform (UWP) Mail and Calendar apps in Windows 11. Microsoft announced that starting in 2024, all devices will come with the new Outlook for Windows app pre-installed. The Mail and Calendar applications will continue to be available via download in the Microsoft Store through the end of 2024.
Microsoft provides several additional options for scheduling appointments and emails. The most obvious choice for most users is to use Outlook software, which is available separately from Windows and is offered as a one-time purchase without upgrades or on a subscription basis (including in the MS Office 365 packages). Outlook integrates a calendar and email client into a single program.
The Mail and Calendar applications, which handle things individually, are part of Windows and can also be used as an alternative. If you previously have chosen this option, you should prepare yourself for switching in the not-too-distant future.

Until then, you can continue to use both Mail and Calendar. However, Microsoft recommends that its users switch to Outlook for Windows beforehand to ensure a relaxed and smooth transition. All Microsoft 365 and Office 365 subscribers and subscribers with access to the associated desktop apps can use Outlook for Windows without detours. According to Microsoft, the software supports e-mail accounts from all conceivable providers, but this is still something to be finalized. Currently, you can only Microsoft email accounts, Gmail, and Yahoo Mail use in Outlook for Windows. IMAP and POP3 Accounts will follow soon.
